EU Day at CCGrid conference 2022 – highlights from the day

ccgrid2022

On 19th of May 2022, we organised the EU Day at the CCGrid 2022 conference. The CCGrid symposium series serves as a major international forum for presenting and sharing recent research accomplishments and technological developments in the field of Cluster, Cloud and Internet computing.

The first CCGrid Conference started in Brisbane, Australia, in 2001. Since then, the conference has successfully been hosted around the world. Returning back to its originating country, the 22nd International conference was held in Taormina (Messina), Italy.

EU Day, organised by HUB4CLOUD, explores the major developments in the European cloud computing ecosystem, in particular open source approaches. The idea of this event was to bring together various European communities that are working across various fields but linked together with the common topic of the Cloud! There were 11 European Horizon2020 projects that participated and presented the project use-case. The event started off with a keynote presentation from the Project Officer of the organisers (HUB4CLOUD), Luis Busquets from the European Commission. Luis gave insights on the priorities of the commission with regard to European cloud computing, and information on the upcoming calls.

Followed by the keynote presentation, the 11 projects gave their short presentation (available below). Finally the day concluded with a panel discussion on “relevance of cloud/edge research and innovation in the context of Horizon Europe Cluster 4”. The panel was moderated by Prof. Radu Prodan (University of Klagenfurt, Austria) and the panelists were:

  • Luis Busquets, European Commission
  • Maria Fazio, University of Messina
  • Antonio Filograna, Engineering Ingegneria Informatica
  • Panagiotis Michael, National Technical University of Athens
  • Andrea Christofori, EGI Foundation
