Insights from H-CLOUD participation in the Advanced Technologies for Industry (ATI) event

On 4 February 2021, H-CLOUD partner Mark Dietrich from EGI presented H-CLOUD during the event “Harnessing the Cloud-Driven Revolution: Trends, Challenges and Opportunities”, organised within the Advanced Technologies for Industry (ATI) project and commissioned by EASME and DG GROW.

Aim of the workshop was to properly inform relevant stakeholders (policy makers, cluster organisations, national and regional authorities, SMEs) on latest project findings on specific advanced technologies and boost the discussion on related adoption barriers and opportunities. This workshop focused on Cloud computing and in particular explored the main trends, policies, initiatives and services that are being developed to foster cloud computing adoption, discussing on the impact those initiatives have on end users, especially SMEs.

After a first introduction of the ATI project, Gabriella Cattaneo (IDC), Manuel Mateo Goyet (EC DG CNECT) and Athanasios Drougkas (ENISA) set the scene sharing insights on cloud computing market trends and adoption (Cattaneo), the strategic importance played by cloud in the framework of the European Strategy for Data (Goyet), the relevance of cloud security for healthcare (Drougkas).

The second part of the event had the main objective of engaging participants in a discussion about three main questions: What are the business impacts and drivers for cloud adoption in industry? How cloud federation as an ecosystem of excellence could create value and have a positive impact especially on SMEs? Policy is playing a central role in shaping the European cloud market; how should develop to further support EU businesses?
The discussion, moderated by Massimiliano Claps (IDC), gathered relevant feedback from the stakeholders composing the panel: Mark Dietrich (EGI – H-CLOUD project), Radu Vunvulea (Group Head of Cloud Delivery, Endava Romania), Catherine Nohra China (Founder, B2cloud) and Roberto Beneduci (CEO, Coretech).
